Guatemala - When Luis Fernando Diaz Milian and Fernel Moroy have a ball at their feet, they feel nothing but happiness. In the soccer freestyle world, players like these two talented youngsters combine creativity and acrobatic moves to show their ball control skills. Luisfer and Fernel, as they are popularly known thanks to the internet, had earned a certain recognition in the web, but they wanted to take their game one step further. Today they can say they are the only Guatemalan finalists on GolTV's "Soccer Cam", a TV show exclusively dedicated to home soccer videos, where the sport's future stars have their first opportunity to shine.
Adrian Costas, Soccer Cam's writer and director explained the concept of the show: "it's simple: a ball, a camera, a video. If you recorded your best play or blooper, Soccer Cam is the place to show it and become famous on GolTV, the only 24/7 soccer channel".
Broadcasted every Thursday night, the program showcases home videos from Latin America, the United States and Canada. Among hundreds of clips, Luisfer and Fernel's was one of the most voted by the audience. As a matter of fact, in the week it was shown, the 20,000 audience voting mark for a single video was surpassed, to qualify the Guatemalan-born duo to Soccer Cam's grand finale.
Luisfer,18, and Fernel, 16 are proud: "having seen our videos on soccer cam has been an unforgettable experience and to be in the final representing our country is a great honor", said Fernel.
Soccer has been a major part in the lives of Luisfer and Fernel from a very young age. Luisfer trains hard every day and dedicates long hours to practice his freestyle. As a mix of soccer and entertainment, freestyling has become increasingly popular all over the world thanks to superstars such as Brazilian Ronaldinho and Portuguese Cristiano Ronaldo.
From Miami, Florida, where GolTV is located, Adrian Costas remarked how Soccer Cam reached a very unique, yet wide audience group. As a writer with more than 10 years of experience in sports programs, talk shows and reality tv, he stressed how the program gets to: "young players like Luisfer and Fernel, who crave for an opportunity to show their talent on TV everyday. Now, they finally have it on GolTV".
Soccer Cam's top prize is a trip to London to watch the Emirates Cup, a preseason tournament held at Arsenal's Emirates Stadium where the top European clubs prepare for the upcoming soccer season.
So Luisfer and Fernel had their first big break, but what's next? Costas sums it up: "it's once again in the hands of Soccer Cam's audience, whose votes will determine the name of the winner".
Next May 21st voting will begin on www.goltv.tv and exactly one week later, on May 28th, Soccer Cam will announce the winning video of the season. Two Guatemalan freestylers have already marked down that date on their calendars.
