La Hora Editorial of today: Guatemala tantrums at the UN?

E-mail Print PDF

IranMahmoud_AhmadinejadJudging by the comments of some ignorants in Guatemala, our country would have to go to the Security Council of the United Nations to play the role of a spoiled child to bawl and throw a tantrum every time it suits Israel, Taiwan and the United States. Without the right even to analyze situations, but just play the stooge. We can not even talk about a local foreign policy proposal because the locals have dignity and are not mere bootlickers like some experts who have launched an outcry because it was reported that the Iranian president could come to the inauguration of the new government.

When a new government is inaugurated, the country invites all nations with which it maintains diplomatic relations. It depends on each country whether or not they send a delegation. No country can cross off the list invited leaders of any country with which they have diplomatic relations. It is really awkward to write that a mistake was made by inviting the President of Iran. But worst of all is that they want to use Guatemala as a pawn, as an instrument of aligned foreign policy of conflictive countries such as Israel and Taiwan.

Guatemala reaches the Security Council of the United Nations with the authority and obligation to know every case brought to the Council without prejudice and studying the facts to make decisions. To un- invite the President of Iran because it "would offend our allies," read Israel and the United States, would be telling the world that our position in the Security Council is NOT to study, analyze, reason and vote, but to vote as "our allies" want and not offend them.

We have not seen a more despicable posture that seeks to qualify a diplomatic invitation as a foreign policy error, to countries with which there is a relationship. There may indeed be extreme ignorance in this approach. But it is so undignified that it is necessary to point out that if our country opted for a seat on the Security Council the UN is not to throw tantrums, but to act as a mature country, serious and responsible in pursuit of world peace and conflict resolution, not the creation or aggravation of conditions which exist or may arise, conditions that would occur if we assume the obtuse, fanatical and abject attitudes, of those who claim that we are mere puppets and raise our hand when in Israel give us the order.

bravo
Well, not all is lost in Guatemala.
There are some people with guts.
Not everyone has sold out, La Hora is to be congratulated and the Guatemala Times also.

General Otto Perez doesn’t seem to have the balls after all, he is already trying to avoid “embarrassment.” Maybe "mano dura", but not really.
What a coward.
He isn’t tough after all. Someone is keeping his balls in a jar. Now we know exactly who owns Otto Perez.

wow
Mano Dura demystified. That was fast.
Sad story.

bad omen
If this newly elected President can’t stand up to anyone, what good can he be for Guatemala?
Good for the US, not good for Guatemala.
Nothing changes………..
